Can child maltreatment be prevented through universal home visiting for newborns and their families?

What would our communities look like if every family, regardless of income or education status, was provided at least one home visit by a registered nurse after bringing their newborn home from the hospital? Scott Hippert, executive director of Family Connects International, presented on this topic at a two-day convening hosted by Casey Family Programs in May 2018, where child welfare leaders and experts came together to share innovative strategies designed to improve child safety and reduce child abuse and neglect fatalities. Mr. Hippert shared how this evidence-based, universal home visiting model offers a promising approach to reducing child maltreatment, improving the health of infants and mothers, and their families.
